Entomology's Lab Safety Evaluations have normally been June-August but will be shifted to October- December. More updates will come as we get closer to our evaluation dates but wanted everyone to know it has been moved to Fall.

1. Laboratory Safety Contact (LSC) Program Initiative
EHS is looking to start a new program to allow each PI to have a designated lab safety contact (LSC) person in their lab to allow for more accountability in lab safety. If you are interested in designating a safety contact (LSC) for your lab, please contact EHS directly.
Laboratory Safety Contact:

  *   Appointed by the PI
  * Assist in identifying and addressing safety concerns
  * Supports the PI by assisting in identifying and addressing safety concerns
  * Oversees safety practices in daily operations
  * Serves as the primary liaison for safety in the laboratory

 Responsibilities that PI Cannot Delegate to LSC

  * Ensure that laboratory personnel follow the Chemical Hygiene Plan, Biosafety Plan, Radiation Safety Plan, etc.
  * Have overall responsibility for chemical, biological, radiological hygiene, and physical safety in the laboratory.
  * Ensure that training for laboratory personnel is adequate for the hazards present in the lab.
  * Enforce safety regulations and policies.

2. Summer Undergraduate Research Training
Those of you who will have undergraduates working in your lab this summer, they can take a specialized course at EHS for safety. Contact EHS if you would like someone to take the course.
