Dear All,

Please look at the message below about upgrading the GlobalProject VPN client, effective Tuesday evening, December 19th at 10pm.  Everyone will need to update the GlobalProtect VPN client on their machines after this scheduled maintenance.

Dear CITL,


Please be advised that GlobalProtect, UC Riverside’s virtual private network (VPN) service, is scheduled to be upgraded on the evening of Tuesday, December 19, 2023. This update is an important step towards enhancing campus security.


The GlobalProtect 5 series has reached end-of-life and is therefore no longer supported by Information Technology Solutions (ITS).


If a user is unable to upgrade to the 6.1.1 version due to an incompatible device or software, please make sure to inform them that their device is not compliant with UCR's security standards for accessing secure campus resources. Please contact ITS if you need to submit an exception request to the Information Security Office.

Upgrade Your Unit’s GlobalProtect VPN to the Latest Version

If you manage devices for your unit, please update the GlobalProtect client to the 6.1.1 version. Installation packages will be available at campusvpn.ucr.edu<https://campusvpn.ucr.edu/global-protect/login.esp> beginning at 10:00 PM on December 19.



Below you will find the list of devices and software supported by GlobalProtect version 6.1.1.

Supported Devices and Software

macOS

  *   10.15 (Catalina)
  *   11 (Big Sur)
  *   12 (Monterey)
  *   13 (Ventura)



GlobalProtect 6.1.1 does not support macOS 10.11 (El Capitan), 10.12 (Sierra), 10.13 (High Sierra), and 10.14 (Mojave).



Windows

  *   Windows 10
  *   Windows 10 UWP
  *   Windows 11



GlobalProtect 6.1.1 does not support Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1.



Linux CentOS

  *   CentOS 8.3



GlobalProtect 6.1.1 does not support CentOS 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, and 8.0.



RHEL

  *   8.7
  *   9.1



GlobalProtect 6.1.1 does not support RHEL 7.0, 8.3, and 8.4.



Ubuntu

  *   16.04 LTS
  *   18.04 LTS
  *   19.04
  *   20.04
  *   22.04



GlobalProtect 6.1.1 does not support RHEL 14.04.



Apple IOS and iPadOS

GlobalProtect 6.1.1 does not support any version.



Google Android

GlobalProtect 6.1.1 does not support any version.



IOT

  *   Raspbian
  *   Ubuntu
  *   Windows IOT Enterprise



GlobalProtect 6.1.1 does not support Android.



Hypervisors

  *   Citrix XenDesktop
  *   VMWare Horizon and Vcenter
