The UCR Library has scheduled workshops for the Spring 2023 Quarter. Please share this email, which contains links and a description for each workshop or event. Also, attached is a flyer of the workshops that the Research Services department has planned.  If the workshop flyer could be distributed and/or posted within your department it would help us to promote these workshops to the UCR community. Monday, April 24 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.



In this maker week workshop you will learn all about circuits and how to put one together to bring a small paper robot to life. You will be able to take you creation home to show off to all your friends.

Monday, April 24 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.



In this workshop you will learn how to build a basic circuit using an Arduino Micro Controller, an LED light, wires, and bread board in Tinkercad. Tinkercad is a free online app for 3D modeling and Circuit simulation from Autodesk.

Tuesday, April 25 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.



In this workshop you will learn how to use leather cords, beads, and hoop earrings to create a bracelet you can wear and take home with you or gift to a loved one. Space is limited to the first 20 students.

Come learn how you can create your own 3D models and then bring them to life using 3D printers. We will show you different resources, and printing machines to get you started so that you can use the makerspace services to make your own 3D print.

Join us and learn how you can make small gifts for your loved ones or for yourself. This is your chance to have fun and try something new. By using a crochet hook, and yarn you will learn step by step on how to create a small animal that you can take home at the end of the workshop.

If you do your writing in Google Docs, make your life easier by adding Paperpile. UCR has licensed Paperpile to help Google Docs users organize the books and papers they use for their research in such a way that it is incredibly simple to compose in-text citations and bibliographies. This workshop will save you time!

Network analysis is a common digital research method in many disciplines, used to study social or historical networks as well as the spread of disease, complex species interactions, logistics networks, and more. This workshop introduces the basics of working with network graphs and visualizing network data. After covering some essential vocabulary and concepts, we will explore a software program called Gephi, a free and open-source tool for network analysis and visualization.

Google provides a variety of geospatial tools (some very familiar, some less so) that enable us to query, explore and create maps. In this workshop we'll look at several versions of Google Earth along with resources for learning more about them: Google Earth (on web and on mobile), Google Earth Pro (on desktop), Google Earth Engine, and Google Earth Studio.
