The following message has been forwarded on behalf of Rochelle Hoey Chamberlain.

Would you mind sharing the email below with the department? I would like to get this participant to our short course in contact with others in the department that might be more knowledgeable about his requests.

Thank you!

Rochelle

Hi Rochelle,

I hope you are having a good week. I am making my travel arrangements and I was going to come in a couple of days early. I was think of shooting over to Joshua Tree. But I also know that there is an oak reserve not too far from campus. I was hoping to get your opinion on what I should do with my time. I am a tree person, so that is attractive.

Also, I have sort of a strange request. Is there a person, maybe a student assistant that is really good at pinning and curating an insect collection that would like to earn a little money coaching/teaching me to pin various orders of insects? There is only so much you can learn on YouTube.

Lastly, would be interested to see any of the tree pest in the area i.e. gold spotted oak borer, various shot hole borers, or South American palm weevil. I am not looking for anyone involved in the short course (because they are probably busy) and I don’t know our exact agenda, so outside of those times.

I realize all my requests are not doable, so in rank order of priority:

  1. Pinning
  2. Tree Pests
  3. Oak Reserve
  4. Joshua Tree

Happy to compensate tour guide/coach for time, buy meals, pay gas, tip, etc. I will probably rent a vehicle, too. Would love to help out a grad student.

Dear True Bug Biodiversity Short Course participants,

We are excited to have you on board for the first True Bug Biodiversity course to be held in the United States at UC Riverside in the Entomology Research Museum teaching space in June 2022! Please complete the questionnaire <https://forms.gle/8EYDSwVhQ95tRqmHA> for some information we’ll need from you.

Also, here is a brief summary on some of the logistics.

For those of you eligible for and receiving a stipend to offset part of your travel costs, reimbursement will occur after the short course. With this in mind, please make arrangements for travel and lodging yourselves.

The course starts on Monday June 13th at 9AM, so you may need to arrive in Riverside, CA, on Sunday. The last official program item will be on Friday evening, June 17th, so participants can depart on Saturday.

If you are flying into California, the closest airport to Riverside is Ontario airport.<https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ontario+International+Airport/@34.0559976,-117.5980922,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x9fc4ed16c859523b!8m2!3d34.0559976!4d-117.5980922> There are shuttle options as well as Lyft etc. for the ~20-30 minute trip to Riverside.
