Dear English Majors,

Happy Fall 2026.

We’re almost there.

In the meantime, I have some information about a post-graduation opportunity you may want to consider if you are graduating this year.

Check out the Capital Fellows Programs in Sacramento.

There are four:

The Assembly Fellowship Program, where fellows work in the California State Assembly.
The Judicial Fellowship Program, where you would work in the judicial branch serving the mission of “access to justice for all.”
The Senate Fellowship program, working in the California Senate body as a fellow.
The Executive Fellowship program, where you work in state agencies on state policy.

You’ll need to be: at least 20 years old; have a BA by 9/1 of the year you will be a fellow; have a GPA of 2.5 or higher; be interested in California policy matters; and be authorized to work in the US.

You can get more information at the link below; deadline to apply is 11/10/2026!

These positions give you 10-11 months of full-time employment with benefits.

These positions are worth considering applying for if you are interested in education, teaching policy, law, literacy, environment, public policy, and other areas where your literary analysis and critical thinking skills from your English degree will give you a strong basis for applying.

Questions? let me know!

Take care,

jt

"We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land, water, and air: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands."
