Hi Everyone,

This is the first time I’m reaching out to you as Chair of the English Department, so before anything else, let me just say I’m happy to welcome you to fall quarter at UCR.

What I have been planning to share with you, too, is that I have open-door office hours (no appointment needed) from 1 - 3 PM every Wednesday from now through the end of the quarter. These are open to anyone who would like to chat.

Please feel free to come in and say hello when you’re around the department. The room number is 1220C HMNSS. This is the room that’s sort of in the back of the English Department - come through and say hello! I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing from as many of you as possible. I’m also available via email via this email address, or via Zoom, by appointment (the link will be the link below, but we’ll schedule the personal Zoom meeting by email).

In any case, if you have questions about the major, about anything related to the department, let me know, and feel free to check in with me via one of these options.

Today, of course, you're in the middle of planning your winter course schedules. And based on feedback from the wonderful EMA board, I’m writing to let you know that next Wednesday November 20 we will be hosting an hybrid in-person/Zoom discussion to introduce our winter 2025 course offerings. English course descriptions have come out for winter, and the line-up looks amazing. Next Wednesday, we’ll be going through the winter 2025 English Department offerings course by course, so you’ll have an idea of what each one will be about - to the extent we can, of course, as faculty are always updating their courses.

Please do come by; it’s a small room, but there’s also a Zoom link in case you want the remote option:

Your intrepid EMA leader, Lidia Monsivais, will send reminders about Wednesday’s session, going forward. And next Wednesday's meeting is for any undergraduate student who may be looking for courses in English this winter - so invite your friends.

If you have any questions at all regarding your winter 2025 schedule or course options, definitely plan to attend!

And again, if you have other questions, or would like to say hello, see me in office hours.

Until next week, take care,

jt

"We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land, water, and air: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands."
