I am inviting you to contribute an essay on writer Harlan Ellison for a new
volume of the Salem Press/EBSCO *Critical Insights* series. The literary
criticism series is designed to introduce undergraduates to significant
authors and works. Other authors in the series include Nathaniel Hawthorne,
Ernest Hemingway, and Gabriel García Márquez. The series volume I am editing
on Harlan Ellison will have five new articles, an introduction, a chronology
of the author's life, a general bibliography, and about a dozen reprinted
articles on Ellison.

If you have expertise on Ellison and are interested in writing the following
short comparison/contrast essay of 5000 words for $ 250 or the biography
essay of 2000 words for $ 100, please email me as soon as possible with your
mailing address (so Salem Press can send you a contract), and your first and
second preference for the two articles by typing a number in front of the
two articles listed below. If you are interested, I can sample chapters from
a previous volume on Hemingway for the biography and comparison/contrast
essays. The finished article you will be doing has a mid-August deadline.

Please forward this invitation to others who may be interested, and I look
forward to hearing from you soon.

______ Biography of the author (2,000 words, $100 to chapter author): A
biographical sketch of the author, in chronological order from early life
through death, usually with the primary focus being on the life details
external to the writing (and drawing connections with influences, etc.).

______ Compare/contrast chapter (5,000 words, $250 to chapter author):
analyzes the work or author in the light of another work or author--two
works by Ellison or a work by Ellison and another by a different author.

Each chapter, as appropriate, will include a "Works Cited" section, listing
works referenced in the creation of the piece. Each chapter will also
include a 100-word "about the author" summary (provided by each chapter
author). EBSCO will contract directly with each chapter author and will pay
each chapter author a separate honorarium.
