Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition
The University Writing Program of the University of California at Davis
seeks a tenure-line assistant professor to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses in academic writing, writing in disciplines and
professions, and the theory and pedagogy of composition and rhetoric. We
are seeking in particular a teacher/scholar with significant research in
literacies and literacy development, with concentration in such areas as
writing/rhetorics of diverse populations, teaching of college-level
writing to English learners, and assessment of writing in multicultural
settings, among others. Interest in and potential for writing program
administration in a Research I public university is required.
PhD or ABD (degree completed by Summer 2008) in rhet/comp,
professional/technical communication, or closely-related field.
The successful candidate will join an independent writing program at a
top-flight research university with an established emphasis on writing
in the disciplines and professions, as well as a diverse student
population. The University Writing Program publishes the award-winning
journal Writing on the Edge and enjoys the support of Daviss renowned
programs in the sciences, environmental studies, agriculture, and
engineering, plus close ties with the arts, the humanities, and the
School of Education. Located in Northern Californias Central Valley,
adjacent to Sacramento and within easy driving distance of the Bay Area

Associate Professor/Advanced Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition
The University Writing Program (UWP) of the University of California at

professor to direct the lower-division writing component of the UWP and
to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in academic writing, writing

administrative duties. We are seeking a teacher/scholar with significant
administrative experience in first-year writing programs, in
preparation/mentoring of graduate students to teach writing, and with
such issues as placement, curriculum design, and writing support
services. Candidates for this position should have an active research
agenda in one or more of the following fields: models of writing
pedagogy, the first-year writing curriculum, technologies of writing,
writing assessment, writing in disciplines/professions, teaching of
college-level writing to English learners, writing in multicultural
settings, and so forth.
