"Racial Blackness and the Discontinuity of Western Modernity"

 

Lindon Barrett is Professor Comparative Literature and African American
Studies and Director of African American Studies at UC Irvine. Professor
Barrett received his PhD in English from the University of Pennsylvania in
1990 and is the author of Blackness and Value: Seeing Double, Cambridge UP,
1999. His has published numerous scholarly articles on a wide range of
literary, pedagogical, and theoretical topics, from subjectivity and
homoeroticism in Langston Hughes to teaching against authenticity in the
slave narrative to "Mercantilism, U.S. Federalism, and the Market Within
Reason: The 'People' and the Conceptual Impossibility of Racial Blackness."
His current book project, Racial Blackness and the Discontinuity of Western
Modernity, is a theoretic analysis of the place of Atlantic slavery in
Western modernity.
