Heidi Brayman Hackel

 

"Dumb Eloquence": Chirology in Early Modern England

 

Heidi Brayman Hackel, Associate Professor at Oregon State University,
specializes in early modern English literature and culture.  She is the
author of Reading Material in Early Modern England: Print, Gender, and
Literacy (2005) and co-editor of the forthcoming Reading Women: Literacy,
Authorship, and Culture in the Atlantic World, 1500-1800.  Her talk on
Tuesday is part of her current book project, "Dumb Eloquence":  A Cultural
History of Deafness, Muteness, and Manual Gesture in Early Modern England.
