Topic: The Poetics and Politics of Silence November 11-13, 2005 Pepperdine
University Malibu, California

Submission Deadline: March 15, 2005

Proposals are sought for a panel on the Poetics and Politics of Silence.
Papers are invited to analyze any aspect of the representation of silence

structures of individual or collective silence, silence which conceals
historical moments, cultural conflicts, traumatic political events,
minority or gender issues.
Topics might include:
- Silence as conscious recognition of the absence of speech.
- Historical moments or cultural conflicts that promote individual
or collective silence.
- Narrative strategies which infuse silence and fill the void.
- The role of literature, film, or visual art in exposing silence
and revealing lost voices and hidden areas of history, culture and politics.
