Hello EH&S researchers,

October is Biosafety Month, and our 12 Months of Research Safety topic is Flames in Biosafety Cabinet Guidelines.  While using flames for sterilization is a common technique, flames in a biosafety cabinet can be unsafe for the user and damage the cabinet.  Review the flyer to learn about what can happen and how to work safely.  If you use open flames in your lab but do not have a biosafety cabinet, review the alternatives listed to see if there are safer and easier options available for your needs.
