[Edge-faculty] EDGE Seminar 4/6 @ 2 pm in Geology 2460H

Dear all,

Please note the new day and time for the EDGE seminar series this
spring: *Thursdays
at 2 pm* *in Geology 2460H* (NAI conference room).

This week's speaker will be Fortino Morales, discussing the proposed
changes to the UC-wide Climate Protection Policy section of the UC Policy
on Sustainable Practices.

Attached is the latest draft language along with a link to a webinar
recording from UCOP's presentation on the proposed changes. Also
attached is a webinar from the UC Green New Deal, organized the week
following UCOP's presentation, along with their collective suggestions for
changes to the proposed policy language.

Fortino will summarize these documents and presentations, seek input from
the group, and encourage submissions to the policy feedback form.

Coffee/tea and snacks will be provided. Please bring your own mug. We hope

Below is the text from the UCOP solicitation request:

Dear Stakeholders,

The most recent IPCC report, compiled by hundreds of scholars and approved
by the representatives of 195 countries, clearly states “*There is a
rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a livable and sustainable
future for all (very high confidence).”*

As the climate crisis worsens, UC is evolving its response with an *updated
climate policy* that shifts from a carbon neutrality strategy that relies
on offsets towards a strategy of *direct decarbonization* that will require
fully transforming campus energy infrastructure.  The UC Climate Change
Working Group is collecting *feedback on the draft policy update *from
stakeholders across UC. After incorporating feedback the policy will go to
the UC Sustainability Steering Committee

 for approval in May.
