Subject: [Digital_humanities] California Digital Humanities Research Institute public Keynotes Announced and Application now open

California Digital Humanities Research Institute (CaliDHRI) is a free, annual digital ethnic studies institute inspired by CUNY DHRI and hosted by UC Irvine Libraries and UCLA Libraries. The inaugural CaliDHRI will center Black digital humanities thematically, and rotate annually through Latinx, Asian American, and Indigenous Studies topics while focusing on California-centric research questions and datasets. CaliDHRI 2022 (April 27-29th) will be virtual.

Our 2022 theme, “The Black Press”, will be explored by three keynote speakers (who will highlight their own Black digital humanities research and projects) as well as individuals or small teams of participants who have applied to the Institute with a research question, collection, or project in mind. We invite participants of all skill levels and from any discipline who are interested in helping to build a Black digital humanities community with a California focus. All keynotes are open to the public. Participation in the CaliDHRI institute is by application only.

Applications are due by March 25th, 2022. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by April 4th, 2022.

The 2022 program is designed for those who want to explore foundational GIS and text mining tools using open datasets relevant for African American history. Participants will collaborate on digital humanities resources for research and teaching using Black collections, with the aim of strengthening connections across institutional and community boundaries and advancing digital ethnic studies. Community scholars and anyone interested in Black Studies, Digital Humanities, and/or California Studies are especially encouraged to apply<http://it.ly/calidhri2022>.

Keynotes will take place on April 27th, 28th, and 29th at 10am PST.
CaliDHRI Institute workshop sessions will take place on April 27th, 28th, and 29th from 1130am-4pm PST.
