Dear colleagues,
As many of you know, on July 18-20 at the Mission Inn, UCR is hosting this year's annual meeting of the Society for Political Methodology, which is the core, international meeting in political science that advances statistics and machine learning for political science. You can read more about Polmeth and see the program listing here: https://polmeth.ucr.edu/
The deadline to apply to present a paper or poster has passed, but there is still room for you to register to attend. To attend, you must fill out the "application survey" that you can find on the meeting's website under the apply/register<https://polmeth.ucr.edu/how-apply-and-register> tab. Once I see your "application" I will send you an RSVP survey that guides you through the registration process (I send these out in batches about once a week so please be patient). We will allow UCR faculty and students to attend in one of two ways. First, if you are a faculty member and you plan on attending most of the conference as a full participant, I ask that you pay the registration fee. Second, if you are a student, or if you are a faculty member but you only wish to pop in to see an occasional panel but not fully participate in the meeting, we can let you attend for free, but you must understand that we will not include you in the meal head counts and you will not be eligible for meals or conference swag. I apologize but we don't have the resources to pay for your costs to attend the meeting if you are choosing to participate without paying the registration. But that said, either way you will have a name tag and be listed as an attendee on the conference program if you confirm your registration in the RSVP survey.
Also this year Polmeth is collaborating with the Institute for Replication to host a replication game on the Saturday of the conference (July 20, all day). You do not need to be registered for Polmeth if you only want to participate in the replication game – this is an event that is in parallel to the main conference. The announcement and registration link for the replication game is below.
Thanks!
Kevin

The Institute for Replication (I4R<https://i4replication.org/>) is hosting a Replication Games<https://i4replication.org/description.html> at the upcoming Polmeth meeting in Riverside, CA on Saturday July 20th, 2024. Replication Games are one-day events that brings researchers together to collaborate on replicating papers published in high-ranking journals. Replication is a crucial aspect of scientific research, ensuring that results are reliable and reproducible. By participating in the Replication Games, you will not only contribute to the integrity of research in your field but also have the opportunity to network with fellow researchers and develop your coding skills. All participants will be given co-authorship to a meta paper aggregating the reproduction/replications results.
Participants will be matched with other researchers working in the same field. Each team will work to reproduce a recently published study in a leading political science journal. For this event we will select papers from Political Analysis.
In person participation is encouraged but it is also possible to participate virtually. Registration is free and in-person participants will be treated to complimentary breakfast and lunch with coffee served throughout the day.
Participants should register here: https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/I4R_PolMeth_Games_2024 . There is no cost to register but the event is capped at 50 participants.
This event is part of games organized all over the world by the Institute for Replication. This year, I4R is hosting events at Berkeley, Brown, Cambridge, Oxford, UCLA and in 20 more locations. All researchers (e.g., graduate students, post-doc, faculty) are welcome.
