The talk will be given by *Prof. Mark Wolfson*, Chair of Department of
Social Medicine, Population, and Public Health, SOM, UCR

Title:
Some Thoughts on Data Science - Population Health Collaborations.

Abstract:
Data science involves the application of knowledge from the fields of
computer science (on how to manage data) and statistics (on how to
analyze data) to solve theoretical and practical problems. The field of
population health involves investigation of health outcomes, patterns of
health determinants, and policies and interventions that link them
(Kindig and Stoddart, 2003). Data science and population health have a
natural affinity. This talk will explore this affinity, including
potential avenues for realizing its potential. Special reference will be
made to opportunities at UCR for collaborations of data scientists and
population health scholars involving research, teaching, and service.

------------------------------------
Sponsored by the UCR Data Science Center, the purpose of the Data
Science Seminars is to foster collaborations between "core" Data Science
faculty (from CSE/ECE/Stat Departments) and faculty/visitors from other
sciences that face Data Science problems in their research. These
informal gatherings are open to interested faculty and graduate
students. Each meeting will start with a talk describing research
problems and then a discussion will follow for questions, open problems,
ideas for possible collaborations etc.

A full list of previous seminars appears at:

Forward this email to other colleagues or graduate students in your lab
that may be interested. Moreover, if you are interested in giving a Data
Science related talk, please contact me (tsotras at cs.ucr.edu).

Sincerely,
Vassilis Tsotras
Professor, CSE Department
Director, Data Science Major
