> On-line registration for the Festival is required for participation in any of the following events.
> 
> Acting
> Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships: Participants are nominated from an Associate or Participating production.
> Ten-minute Plays: Faculty directors conduct auditions at the beginning of Festival for staged readings of short plays. Check Festival program for times.
> Next Step: Audition for major universities and theatre companies. Prepare a 90-second monologue, and part of a song if you wish. $10 fee. Dance auditions are held separately.
> 
> Scholarly Writing
> Institute for Theatre Journalism and Advocacy: Students from any discipline work with media artists, online bloggers, and traditional critics giving students an understanding of the variety of types of communication creating future advocates for theatre. One student from the region will attend the National Festival. 
> Undergraduate Theatre Scholar Award: Students submit scholarly papers, 10-20 pages (plus notes and references) on any area in the art, craft, or history of theatre, or a cross-disciplinary topic with the art of theatre featured as a key area of investigation.
> 
> Design and Technology
> Realized Design Projects: Students whose school has entered an Associate or Participating entry may participate in the KCACTF Awards for (1) Theatrical Design Excellence in lighting, sound, scenery or costumes or (2) Allied Design and Technologies Awards (scenic and costume crafts and technologies, SFX, properties, projection design, technical direction, make-up design, etc.). The student designs, crafts and technologies presentations  entered must have been realized and produced at students’ home institution. Participants must attend Festival, and display their supporting materials and documentation.
> Regional Non-Realized Design Projects: Student designers showcase their work and receive responses to help improve design skills. See the Region 8 website for the list of shows to choose from.
> Next-Step: Interview for jobs. Design and Technical Production interviews occur at Festival. Students make 5-minute presentations—a table and power will be provided. $10 fee.
> 
> Devised Performance
> Devised Performance Project: Following the online prompt, devise a work at your school using your own actors, and bring it to festival. Visit http://www.kcactf-8.org/devised.html for the prompt and more information. 
> 
> Directing
> SDC Student Directing Fellowship: Bring to Festival a scene you direct (Region 8 website lists shows to choose from) with actors from your own school. Recommendation from a professor is required.
> Student Directing Observership of New Plays: Student directors observe professional New Play Program directors during the new-play-development process.
> 
> Stage Management/Theatre Management/Publicity/Front of House
> Stage Management Fellowship: Stage managers are nominated by directors of Associate or Participating entries.
> Next Step: Stage Management interviews occur at Festival. Stage management and theatre management/publicity/ front of house candidates make 5-minute presentations. $10.00 Fee.
> 
> Playwriting and Dramaturgy
> Playwriting: Any eligible student enrolled at a school with at least one Associate or Participating entry may submit two ten-minute, two one-act, and two full-length plays in any Michael Kanin Award category. See the Region 8 website for required cover sheets for each entry, deadlines and submission instructions.
> LMDA/KCACTF Dramaturgy Award: Students from schools with an Associate or Participating entry who dramaturg a production or workshop or create work for a class may submit their materials.
> Program Notes: Students submit program notes from an Associate or Participating production to display at Festival. 
> 
> Employment and Professional Associations
> Professional Expo: Talk to professionals in a variety of specialties about joining a professional organization or getting work.
