Below is information regarding a great internship opportunity offered by PBK, for juniors and seniors with strong writing skills.  Please forward this email to any students who you think would benefit from this opportunity.  The UCR PBK chapter will submit nominations for interested students.  The deadline is Oct. 24 for endorsement.

Dear Students
 
The national Phi Beta Kappa (PKK) office is pleased to announce that they are looking for new interns for the second installment of their writing internship program for students at colleges and universities that shelter Phi Beta Kappa chapters. The organization is seeking qualified juniors and seniors to serve as writing interns. Students accepted to the program will prepare a series of brief articles for publication on Phi Beta Kappa’s national website for news and alumni relations during the winter and spring semesters.
 
Interested students should contact Gladis Herrera-Berkowitz, gladis at ucr.edu  for a recommendation by the UCR chapter by October 24, 2012. Please indicate your qualifications for this internship, including a brief statement concerning your writing experience, major, GPA, and ability to meet deadlines, as well as contact information.
 
Selected students will be contacted by the national office via e-mail to solicit writing samples and discuss what the internship would involve.
 
Interested students do not need to be Phi Beta Kappa members.
 
The intern positions are unpaid, but students will gain valuable experience working as writers for a nationally recognized institution located in Washington, D.C., and publication of their work by Phi Beta Kappa.
 
PBK is seeking students with the following characteristics/abilities:
·         Major in the liberal arts or sciences
·         Possess strong writing and editing skills, ability to meet deadlines
·         Cover diverse topics and report on events of interest to Phi Beta Kappa and its members
·         Conduct independent research, including interviews 
·         Make a two-semester commitment to the program and produce six stories (500-700 words each)
