>From Teaching Humanities to Consulting in the Private Sector:

Pursuing a university career in the Humanities is extremely challenging, not to mention daunting. Fortunately there are other career and employment opportunities outside of academia that put a Humanities skill set to good use. We will examine the field of intercultural work that helps companies and organizations become more global and better manage a global workforce. You will get a chance to meet and interact with a UCR Ph.D. graduate in Comparative Literature (2006) and learn about his alternative career path.

Mark Frederick, Ph.D.

As the Director of Global Talent Management, Mark is the practice leader for IOR’s consulting services. Mark works extensively with business leaders and global teams on talent management and change management projects. Mark also coaches leaders and managers, helping them develop a global mindset and strengthen intercultural competence. He is licensed to deliver and interpret a variety of assessment instruments including: the Culture in the Workplace Questionnaire (CWq), the Global Competencies Inventory (GCI), and the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). His doctoral degree is in Comparative Literature with an emphasis on Psychology and Cultural Studies. He is fluent in German, proficient in French, Spanish and Dutch, and has studied Danish and Japanese.
