Liao Yiwu, a distinguished Chinese poet and writer of literary non-fiction, specializes in evoking the lives and feelings of people "at the bottom" in Chinese society--farmers, bricklayers, school teachers, shamens, lepers, and others. His work is banned in China, but circulates there online, and is available in English in The Corpse Walker (Pantheon, 2008) and God is Red (HarperCollins, 2011).

After some short readings from these works, Liao, who does not speak English, will answer questions from Professor Andrew Winer, Department of Creative Writing, with interpretation by Professor Perry Link, Department of Comparative Literature.
