Ramzi Rouighi is Associate Professor in the department of History at the University of Southern California. He is the author of The Making of a Mediterranean Emirate (Penn Press, 2011), a study of political practices and representations in late medieval North Africa (Maghrib). Some of his other published work focuses on the place of North Africa in the field of Mediterranean Studies. He is currently preparing a book manuscript on the Berbers.
