Please forward

Dear Playwriting Friends and Theatre Colleagues:

I am writing to inform you and/or your students about the special opportunities open to all playwriting students and emerging and professional playwrights in Western Michigan University's Prague Summer Program in Creative Writing. My WMU colleague, Richard Katrovas, is the founding director of the program, and I am currently one of the playwriting teachers in the Prague playwriting program.

The Prague program has always been unique in being one of the few summer creative writing programs to include playwriting among its offerings. Recent sessions have featured the playwrights Charles Smith, Jeremy Dobrish, Claudia Barnett, Gaylord Brewer, Sandra Seaton, Arnold Johnston and Deborah Ann Percy, and screenwriters Arnost Lustig, Sean Clark and Robert Eversz among its distinguished faculty.
Arnold, Deborah and I are leading the 2011 PSP playwriting workshop this July. Detailed program information and faculty biographies are available at www.praguesummer.com
In addition, the PSP issues many John Woods Scholarships worth up to $1,000 off of a four-week, two-course enrollment. An easy-to-use online application is also accessible at the PSP website.
The class will feature workshops, staged readings and special guests
And, of course, studying playwriting in Prague is always a very inspiring experience with the city's remarkable theatrical and cinematic traditions and a multitude of shows to see, including new experimental work and Shakespeare in Czech at the Prague Castle. During the 2006 session of the program, WMU awarded an honorary doctorate in playwriting to former Czech President and playwright Vaclav Havel at Charles University’s stately Carolinum.
We appreciate your assistance in sharing with your students and playwriting friends this unique and exciting opportunity. Please call or email me with any questions you or your students might have at steve.feffer at wmich.edu or 269-387-2629 or contact the Prague Summer Program directly at prague at wmich.edu.
Sincerely yours,
Steve Feffer
