[CW-Grad] Squaw Valley Scholarships

The Department of Creative Writing announces three scholarship awards to the 
Community of Writers workshops in Squaw Valley, California.  One scholarship 
will be awarded in poetry.  One will be awarded in fiction.  One will be awarded 
in nonfiction.  These scholarships will cover the expense of conference tuition 
and housing expenses for the weeklong conference.

These awards are ONLY available to graduating second- and third-year MFA 
students.

Submission Requirements
Submissions should be unpublished work and must also include a cover sheet 
with the following contact information: home address, day and evening 
telephone numbers, and email address.
	Please submit two copies of the submission, adhering to the following 
guidelines: 
	Poetry: Submissions should consist of four or five stapled pages of recent 
poems, typed in twelve-point Times New Roman.  Your name should appear in 
the upper right-hand corner of each page.  
	Fiction and Nonfiction: Submissions may consist of a story or two, an essay 
or essays, or a book chapter or chapters.  Book chapters should be 
accompanied by a synopsis.  Submissions should be typed in double-spaced 
twelve-point Times New Roman.  They should not exceed 5,000 words. Your 
name should also appear in the upper right-hand corner of each page.

Additional Requirements
Applicants must be able to attend the entire conference. The poetry conference 
will be held from July 17th to the 24th, 2010; the fiction and nonfiction 
conference will be held from August 7th to the 14th, 2010. 
	Winners of these awards are expected to read at the second-year readings 
later this spring.  
	Upon completing the conference, awardees would be required to submit to 
the Department of Creative Writing a three-to-five-page essay discussing how 
the experience at the Squaw Valley conference has impacted their writing.  
Portions of these essays may appear in a future edition of the UCR MFA 
newsletter.
