PLAYWORKS 2009 by UCR Playwrights
Directed by Erith Jaffe-Berg    
Premier productions of plays exploring issues and textures of contemporary life by the best UCR undergraduate and graduate playwrights. A different slate of work is scheduled for each performance.

Some performances may not be suitable for all audiences.

ADDICTION by Suzy Wade
A dark comedy in which two people try to manipulate others into caring about them.

BIGGER BOYS & STOLEN SWEETHEARTS by Andrew Mena
Vince is a lovable stoner. Henrietta is a prostitute. Their awkward love grows and develops despite the violent objections of her pimp, Big Boy Roy.

A CROOK AND HIS SHERIFF by John Encarnacion
Kip, an unlucky man, has gotten used to living behind bars, but Moss, the town's sheriff, needs Kip gone as he's done his time.

ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS by Thomas Russo
A struggling young musician arrives in New York with high hopes, but  must face down his detractors who question his talent and authenticity.
        
POST APOCALYPTICNESS by Lyn Stephenson

YOU CAN T GO HOME AGAIN by Brian Marcelo
A recently engaged couple, Marty and Iris, discuss their relationship and the differences between their families while sitting on the roof of Marty's childhood home.
        
HEIR TO THE THRONE by Jacob Shipp
Flo needs to pee, but Champ won't give up his toilet.  The two engage in an epic (and somewhat disgusting) battle for the porcelain throne.

About to jump, a desperate young man crashes through the events in his life that propelled him towards and away from faith in Christianity.

BRANCHES by Kevin Eldridge
A monologue short play about Claire, whose childhood phobia of trees remains in conflict with her older brother's insatiable love of climbing them.

PERE LACHAISE by Bridgette Portman
Alger, an uptight workaholic with a deeply repressed fear of death, tours a Parisian cemetery with his wife Sandra, and long-hidden memories are revealed.
        
RHAPSODY (a play in monologues) by Raquel Esquivel-Wessler

SILENT SPRING by Kim Ussery
"Silent Spring" explores the science and story behind the landmark environmental book by Rachel Carson. The book revealed the environmental impact of DDT on birds.
        
CYBERLILY by Brenda Varda
Cyberlilly is there to serve her customers' every need - with a virtual and neural interface that considers all desires. 
                                                     
TOKPELA: THE CREATION OF THE WORLD by LaSharon Perez
When two young children begin debate the creation of the world, their grandfather steps in to enlighten them with a Hopi Indian point of view.

Sheila must drive her troubled son eleven-hundred miles across the country before the sunset of a Nebraska law protecting parents who abandon their children.

WHERE SHE SINGING FLAME BATTLES THE  BROKE-DOWN BUS NARRATIVE:
a Choreopoem Opera by Ching-In Chen
A kaleidoscope poem-play featuring a shapeshifter, a single-mother matriarch She Singing Flame and her children who talkstory through the night to survive an impending war.
