Due to numerous questions:

The colloquium is the opportunity for you to read for an audience of your peers in a setting like that you may find when reading at events, bookstores, signings, etc.

It is not required, is pass fail, you can miss a couple without worrying about an "F", and is a great way to get to know each other's work. 

Also, volunteers for someone to coordinate getting people signed up to read would be appreciated.
