THEATRE ARTS DEPARTMENT, UNIVERSITY OF REDLANDS

STAGE MANAGER/PRODUCTION MANAGER – ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Dynamic, collaborative Theatre Arts Department in a Liberal Arts setting
seeks tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Stage Management/
Production Management to teach stage management, mentor student stage
managers, to take on the hands-on production management of the department's
season in multiple venues, and to teach additional courses depending on area
of expertise that would complement the areas of specialization of current
members of the department. These include Lighting Design, Sound Design or
Technology, Projection Design or other areas of technical theatre, design or
management. Evidence of successful teaching and/or mentoring at the
undergraduate level highly desired. Expertise with digital technologies is
a plus. Must relate effectively and work productively across the all levels
of the university community. There are opportunities to work with other
departments (Studio Art, School of Music) and interdisciplinary programs
(Johnston Center for Integrated Studies, Asian Studies etc.) as well as
student life cultural and diversity initiatives that integrate theatre into
campus life and visa versa.
Minimum Qualifications– MFA or equivalent terminal degree and significant
experience in theatre production and design.

The U of R Theatre Arts Department emphasizes the collaborative process and
nurtures the theatre artist in body, intellect, and spirit. Students are
encouraged to pursue diverse theatre goals, cultivate individual expression,
and understand theatre as a tool for social and cultural discourse. Theatre
Arts is a growing department looking ahead to the full realization of its
potential within an expanded facility, which is currently under construction
and planned for completion in winter 2009. We seek a colleague to join
fully in this endeavor, to teach a 6 course load with some variability
dependant on their area of specialization(s) beyond stage management and
allowing course release time for taking on the responsibilities of
production management. The successful candidate will have the ability to
fulfill the requirements of University Service through Academic Advising and
effective service on Departmental and University wide academic and
governance committees, as well as the potential to develop her/his creative
activity and/or research to the degree required for successful tenure
review.

As this new colleague will take the lead on the design and implementation of
the course of study for student stage managers, we envision the following
course list, acknowledging that the successful candidate may make
adjustments based on her/his methodology, within the scope of what we have
envisioned and within the needs of the department.

• Stage Management Course
• Production Manager for Department (course release)
• Design Lights or Design Sound or Design Projections for department
