A note to all CW's -

I had a great time presenting at the UCIRA conference this weekend -right
here in Riverside: I did a much fuller presentation of my Cyberlilly Seven
piece, complete with a dynamic digital interface, the amazing acting talents
of Brian Oglesby, and the technical expertise and creativity of Perry
Hoberman (USC). And I got to meet faculty and students alike from all the
UC campuses - and even a few tentative offers to take my work elsewhere.

Also, there were several intriguing panels touching on developments and
perspectives that will certainly inform my future work.

Oh - and I got two free nights at the Mission Inn.

In any case, if you are a first year student, I would suggest you check out
the UCIRA website: there are opportunities for funding - both institutional
and individual - and there will be another conference next year. I suppose
the only disappointing aspect of the conference for me was there was so
little participation from our own campus (even when the conference was on
home territory.) It may seem as if there aren't opportunities for 'writers'
at UCIRA but if you look at past funding and future opportunities, there are
several ways writer-ly involvement.

Cheers

BV
