Special Topics 252H
The Sufis


This course introduces the student to the mystical Sufi traditions through a 
close, guided reading of the great Sufi poets. The first five weeks of the 
course is dedicated to an intensive study of the principles of Sufism, 
followed by a midterm exam that tests the students’ knowledge of major Sufi 
terms. The last five weeks of class will allow the student to apply those 
principles to an in-depth study of four major Sufi poets: Rumi, Saadi, 
Hafiz, and Omar Khayyam.
