While you're at the Festival - stop downtown for some theatre? BV

Unique voices blend together to explore the definition of "community" as the
eight playwrights involved in L.A. VIEWS: TEN MINUTES AT A TIME, bring you
stories that leave you questioning your own understanding of community and
all it encompasses.

The Plays

4th and Main by Tira Palmquist
A homeless woman who lives in her banged-up car on 4th and Main in downtown
encounters a politically conscious but idealistic young woman - who must
then reconsider the meaning of charity begins at home.

Children of the Night by Brett Webster
In this poetic and surreal piece, a couple explore the beautiful stars in
the sky as they come to terms with their own fallen star - a little precious
being that was once lost to them?

Legit by Henry Ong
Gender identiy and naturalization clash when a transsexual marries an
undocumented Latina to help her obtain a green card.

Jackalling by Brenda Varda
Four scavengers, all part of the global jackal community, do what's
necessary to survive and secure their rightful place in the new jackal world
order.

Mass Transit by Evangeline Ordaz
Circa 1977, the Sanchez' makes their way to Sunday Mass in the family
station wagon, as initial chaos and bickering slowly gives way to a journey
of hope and unforgettable 70s music.

Stuffed Grape Leaves by Damon Chua
In a small westside restaurant, we hear the inner thoughts of a diner, the
server and the cook as they size one another up, making interesting (and
often wrong) assumptions about their fellow Angelenos.

Toyland is Burning by Leon Martell
In a busy store in LA (think Macy's), a substitute Santa Claus is put to the
test as mayhem ensues around the question of whether he is right for the
part in our multi-lingual, multi-ethnic city.

Turning Around Mercy by Jamison Newlander
A hospital administrator and her new assistant struggle to find inspiration
to keep Mercy Community Hospital open.
