Dear All,

NEA administrator, environmental journalist, and novelist, Amy Stolls, will
be coming to campus on Thursday, April 26th to talk about applications for
NEA Fellowships, other arts funding for writers, life after receiving an
MFA, and a number of other topics relevant to all of us. I urge you to
attend her informal and informative talk on the 26th, which will be held
from 3:00-5:00 pm in Rm. 1500 HMNSS.

Also, if you'd like to come to an early dinner at Ciao Bella with Ms. Stolls
and several faculty (around 5:30 pm), please RSVP to me or Amanda ASAP.

Here's a bio for Amy Stolls:

As Literature Program Officer for the National Endowment for the Arts, Amy
Stolls manages the grants program in literature for organizations and
individuals. Her responsibilities run the gamut from facilitating review
panels to advising non-profit organizations on the creation, presentation,
preservation, accessibility, and/or educational value of literary projects.
Since 1998, she has reviewed more than 1,500 proposals from organizations
and thousands more from individual writers, has moderated more than 25
panels, and worked with more than 300 authors, translators, editors,
booksellers, publishers, and other experts in the field. From 1988 to 1996,
Ms. Stolls was an environmental journalist who gained international
recognition for her coverage of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. She has an MFA
in Creative Writing from American University, where she has taught courses
on contemporary literature. Her first novel, Palms to the Ground (Farrar,
Straus & Giroux), was awarded a Parents Choice Gold Award in 2005. She is
currently at work on her second novel entitled The Ninth Wife.

Best wishes,

Maurya
