"One of The Best Poets of Our time."
Denise Levertov
When he died in 1979 at age fifty-one, Bert Meyers was one of the most
celebrated American poets, admired for his uncanny, precisely phrased
imagery, his social engagement and his insights into the human condition.
Twenty-eight years later his collected poems, In A Dybbuk's Raincoat, has
finally come into print.
"There are terrific things here: prose pieces entirely new to me, pungent
paragraphs about Paris, lively comments on poetry, and several naughty words
about Yeats. Once in a while, one encounters old classics, such as 'Picture
Framing.' It's marvelous that Morton Marcus and Bert's son, Daniel, have
brought out this book."
Robert Bly
Join us in launching this important book in a series of readings from Bert's
work by well-known poets, his daughter Anat Silvera, and co-editors of the
book, Daniel Meyers and Morton Marcus.
There will be 8 readings in California and New Mexico during April 2007.
The book is part of the University of New Mexico Poetry Series.
Please forward this list to anyone you think might be interested. THANKS!
