Dear MFA'ers,

A reminder that the application deadline for the 2006-07 CRATE Editorial staff is this coming friday, October 13. Apply and gain valuable editting experience, which is often required for faculty and editorial positions. And trust me, this issue is going to be a good one.
Also, please note that there are Assistant Editor positions for Art, Non-Fiction, Fiction, and Poetry. (I didn't list them because I planned on picking from the other applicants, but please feel free to apply for an assistant position). And if you know of any other qualified grad students, especially webmasters and layout artists, please forward this to them.

Best,
Ky-Phong

CRATE—UC Riverside's Graduate Arts and Literary Journal—is looking for its
2006 -07 Editorial Staff. Dedicated to exploring the borders and boundaries of art and literature, this edition's theme is "Margins and Mainstreams," especially relevant in light of the current state of immigration, war, terror, and surveillance.

In a series of lectures at Amherst College, historian Gary Okihiro argues that "The Core values and ideals of the nation emanate NOT from the mainstream but from the margins."

As a university on the eastern edge of Los Angeles sprawl; as emerging graduate programs in Creative Writing, Arts, Dance, English, Comparative Literature, and History; as young public intellectuals and artists at the beginning of our careers, we are both margin and mainstream.

Within contemporary art and literature, who is marginalized and who is mainstreamed? Who decides? What do the new voices of a post-racial, post-colonial, current war state generation have to say?

Join the CRATE Editorial Staff to be part of this dynamic discussion and gain valuable editing and production experience. To apply, please send in a cover letter with a) short bio and contact info b) the position applying for and relevant experience and c) your interpretation of the theme "Margins and Mainstreams” and any additional creative ideas.

Please email applications (or any questions) to crate.journal at gmail.com by October 13, 2006. For position descriptions, please see back page.
