Some weeks ago, I drove by a vacant field in Fontana and spied two guys flying a hawk. Having been exposed to you I instantly knew what they were doing, and maybe had a little insight as to why.

An excerpt of my thesis, a falconry memoir titled Lift has been published in the South Dakota Review and just went live on their site. A pdf of the piece is available on the SDR site in the table of contents. The piece is titled, “Mercy.”
