Hello Theatre Makers!

I am the new co-artistic director of The Blank
Theatre's Living Room Series (LRS), their weekly
staged reading series.  The season starts in
September, so I am spending the summer looking for
plays and I thought I would ask the artists I dig if
they have any projects they'd like to have a space to
work on for a couple weeks.

LRS is every Monday night from mid-September to
mid-May, and each week is a fully staged-reading with
lights, sound & blocking but on book, in the Blank's
space on the corner of Wilcox & Santa Monica.  We want
this year's season to focus on new work as much as
possible, if the writer is involved - even if they're
out of town - it would be great.  If you're a director
or actor and you have a project you've been wanting to
suss out, this could be a great venue for it.    Each
reading is given 2 weeks to prepare and rehearse at
the director's discretion, and use of the Blank space
to rehearse whenever it's free.  Casting is director's
choice, as there is no company that must be cast, but
we do have a pool of actors that have worked with LRS
in the past if the director can't find what s/he's
looking for.  Each reading gets the space the sunday
night before their reading for a tech/run thru and a
stage manager to work the board & sound.  The Blank
has a minimal prop/set inventory, but they are
available, as the reading is always on the set of the
currently running mainstage show.  The Blank will send
out an email blast to it's mailing list the week
before, but it is primarily up to the director & cast
to get the word out.  Tickets for LRS are free or a $8 recommended
donation.  It can be a great place to work out a play on it's feet:
Johnna Adams "Tumblewings", really grew last month as we rehearsed and
Johnna watched and wrote.  I had a great time directing Erik Patterson's
"He Asked For It" last year, got to dig in to the play with Erik & the
actors; I highly recommend the experience to directors, particularly if
the playwright is involved - I learned a lot.

me and I will share your script with Darin Anthony
(Co-Artistic Director) and Warren Davis (Series
Producer), as they are the rest of the committee
figuring out this year's season.  There is a lot of
amazing theatre being created in Los Angeles, the LRS
can be a place to get more specific, share it with an
audience, get feedback and take another step toward a
fully staged theatrical event!
