Randall Lewis Seminar Series - Thursday, March 22, 2012
The New American Dream: Intergenerational Communities

Art Danielian, a renowned expert in residential architecture, will present some of his firm's housing products, discuss its extensive research and development during the economic downturn, and share his observations of the changing market at the March Randall Lewis Seminar Series.

Mr. Danielian's presentation will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22 in Conference Room B, UCR Extension Building, 1200 University Ave., Riverside. The seminars are free.

Mr. Danielian's presentation is the third in the 2012 Randall Lewis Seminar Series focusing on The Changing American Dream for housing. In the next few decades, California’s population is expected to grow by an estimated 12 million, further increasing demand for additional housing. But the type of housing constructed could be more varied than in the past.

Some industry experts believe attention will turn more toward compact, mixed use development in urban areas that are less dependent on the use of an automobile. More densely populated neighborhoods, walkable to retail and other commercial activity and possibly to mass transportation, will become more popular.

Mr. Danielian believes that housing products that are adaptable for intergenerational living will be amongst the most sought after. "By keeping sustainability and flexibility at the forefront of our design strategies, we can provide products that boast quicker absorption, while targeting a variety of demographic lifestyles and user needs," Mr. Danileian said. The firm's new product development increases density without sacrificing the benefits of home ownership, he said.
