Nov. 12 - Randall Lewis Seminar Series
Wildfires and Their Aftermath: Assessing the Station Fire

The Station Fire charred about one-fourth (250 square miles) of the 655,000-acre Angeles National Forest, and was the largest fire in Los Angeles County history. The arson fire burned for more than a month, destroying 102 homes, cabins and other structures. Two fire fighters also died when their vehicle went off a cliff.

Now, more damage could result from winter rains and mudslides, further threatening lives and property in one of the most urban national forests in the nation. And Southern California’s wildfire season is just beginning.

Jody Noiron, Angeles National Forest Supervisor, will discuss the aftermath of the devastating Station Fire, its effect on the watershed ecosystems, and what homeowners living near wildfire areas can do to help protect themselves at the Nov. 12 Randall Lewis Seminar Series. (Note: This is a week earlier than the normal seminar schedule).

The seminar will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Conference Room B, UCR Extension Building, 1200 University Ave., Riverside (See MAP).

Jody Noiron began her Forest Service career in 1983 as an Engineer on the Jefferson National Forest in Virginia. In addition to a number of special assignments to Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and Milwaukee, she served as Technical Services Team Leader on the Ottawa National Forest in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from 1989 to 1994.
