The Need to Conserve: Landscaping with Less Water
The desire of many Southern Californians is a home with a lush, green, manicured
lawn, flowering shrubs and groundcover.
That was possible when water was plentiful and inexpensive.
But those days may be over. Planned reductions in imported water from the Bay-Delta
and Colorado River and the region's continuing drought are requiring a change in how we
view and create our landscapes.
The good news: Southern California's climate does afford an opportunity to create
beautiful and functional landscaping that also conserves water.
