'Edible Estates' - A Conversation with Fritz Haeg
For the past three years, Los Angeles-based architect, landscaper and artist Fritz Haeg has been working with families across America and elsewhere in transforming their front lawns into harvestable gardens he calls "Edible Estates."
Haeg will share his experiences in transforming grassy lawns into small-scale food production at the November 20 Randall Lewis Seminar Series. This month's seminar is co-organized by the UCR Sweeney Art gallery and the Center for Sustainable Suburban Development.
Haeg's garden prototypes and other commissioned art projects have been exhibited in dozens of art museums and galleries, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Contemporary Museum Baltimore, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Casco Office for Art, Design and Theory, Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Haeg's experiences developing his first "Edible Estates" gardens and a number of essays on the evils of the lawn are part of his book, Edible Estates: Attack on the Front Lawn.
Seminar: Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008
5:30-7:30 p.m., University Village, UV207
