Subject: Summer 2025 REU Flyer - applications due March 15
To: Clawson, Rosalee A <clawsonr at purdue.edu>
Dear colleagues,
I hope to enlist your assistance in recruiting undergraduate students to
apply for an NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
Program to be held this summer 2025 at Purdue University, Utah State
University, UTEP, or Colorado Boulder (May 27-July 25). Students in the
ASPIRE REU program will work on a range of electric vehicle-related
research projects, such as equity issues around EVs and attitudes on EV
adoption as well as more technical research on EV batteries and charging
infrastructure. The ASPIRE Center has a fantastic group of scholars from a
range of disciplines all working together to improve health and quality of
life by catalyzing sustainable electrification across transportation
industries.
Attached is a flyer I hope you will share with potential applicants. I
have also pasted some details below. *The preferred deadline for
application is March 15th.* Any interested undergraduates (who are U.S.
citizens, permanent residents, or U.S. nationals) are welcome to apply.
(My apologies for short turnaround caused by recent uncertainties. To the
best of our knowledge, this program will be held this summer.)
*Student researchers are paid* *competitive stipends and their housing and
travel costs are covered.*
Thank you in advance for sharing this opportunity with your students!!
Best, Rosie
2025 ASPIRE Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program
Welcome to the 2025 Advancing Sustainability through Powered Infrastructure
for Roadway Electrification (ASPIRE) Research Experience for Undergraduates
(REU) Program application! Thank you for your interest in the ASPIRE and
our REU program. ASPIRE is a National Science Foundation Engineering
Research Center that was established in September 2020 with a mission to
improve health and quality of life by catalyzing sustainable
electrification across transportation industries. Specifically, ASPIRE has
a mission to create widespread electrification of vehicles through methods
such as ensuring electric vehicles (EVs) are cost-effective, increasing the
accessibility of charging stations, and decreasing our reliance on fossil
fuels. ASPIRE is led by Utah State University with core partner
institutions Purdue University, University of Colorado-Boulder, University
of Texas El Paso and international partner the University of Auckland,
Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ).
The purpose of the REU program is to provide students with opportunities to
receive quality mentoring and research experiences ultimately impacting
their academic and professional development. The 2025 ASPIRE REU Program
will be hosted at one of the four U.S. based ASPIRE institutions (Utah
State University, University of Texas El Paso, University of
Colorado-Boulder, and Purdue University). Any updates to location,
including switching to remote engagement, if necessary, will be at the
discretion of the university and passed along as the Director knows more.
The ASPIRE REU program will be held from May 27th-July 25th. Students who
participate in the ASPIRE REU program will conduct a summer research
project, attend weekly workshops on academic writing, research skills,
workforce development, and STEM Entrepreneurship, complete assessments and
evaluations, and present at the annual summer Symposium. Students will be
paid a summer stipend of $5000 along with travel, meals, and lodging
accommodations for their summer experience.
Rising Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors are eligible to apply. ASPIRE is
interested in building a quality pool of applicants and *ALL are encouraged
to apply*. If interested, please complete the following applications which
includes providing information about yourself, a review and selection of
project proposal abstracts of interest, and a statement of purpose. *DEADLINE:
Applications are due by March 15th*.
If you have any questions regarding this application please contact Dr.
Brandon Allen, allen352 at purdue.edu.
