Join us this Thursday for the return of Skulls & Stairs, featuring readings
on Beyond Baroque’s staircase by Shelby Pinkham, Wes Weisbaum, and CD
Eskilson!

That will be our last program before our annual summer holiday. Beyond
Baroque will be closed from Saturday, June 28 through Monday, July 7.
Please note that all of our spaces will be closed during that time,
including our bookstore and gallery. The Monday Night Fiction Workshop will
be offered online on June 30, but the Wednesday Night Poetry Workshop will
be on hiatus on July 2 before returning the following week. Meanwhile, the
application for our Poetry Coalition Fellowship in Fundraising and
Development is due July 1.

We’ll be back in July with some exciting programming. We look forward to

Time and Poetic Structure: A Workshop with
L.A. Johnson
*Saturday, July 12, *
*11:00 AM PT In Person at Beyond Baroque*
[image: july12w]

Poems are concerned with time—the recounting of events and experience—but
are also outside of time, existing in a place beyond the limits of linear
time. Our lives are made up both by what is happening in the moment, what
has happened in the past, and what will happen in the future, but how do we
write poems that capture this experience of time? In this three-hour
workshop, we will explore how to layer multiple scenes within a poem, and
how a poem can capture nonlinear time. This workshop will be a mix of
lecture, guided close readings of poems, and generative writing. In
considering time, we will focus on poetic structure, considering the many
ways the container of the poem can capture at once the past, present, and
future. - L.A. Johnson
