For students interested in community health:
>From school of Med/SEHE affiliates Ann Cheney and Jackie Moreira.
On behalf of Unidas Por Salud, we would like to present the
Unidas Por Salud: Community Engaged Mini-Grants Program.
Mission Statement: Unidas Por Salud is a women-led collaborative that
builds the capacity of students and community health workers
(CHWs/promotoras) to partner in research, healthcare service delivery, and
public health outreach to vulnerable Latinx and Indigenous Latin American
communities in the rural desert region of Inland Southern California. The
purpose of the Community Engaged Mini-Grants program is to
enhance community involvement in academic research and foster student
leadership in research endeavors. Our goal is to enhance access to
financial support and resources, enabling students to initiate and conduct
projects and research meaningful to communities and patient populations. A
central mission is to identify healthcare barriers prevalent in the Eastern
Coachella Valley, with the ultimate objective of analyzing data and
insights to benefit the community while formulating strategies to mitigate
health disparities. Through the Community Engaged Mini-Grants Program, our
aim is to empower students by offering them the means to engage in data
collection, analysis, and research dissemination. This initiative strives
to enable tangible changes within the Eastern Coachella Valley communities
and patient population. Furthermore, the program acts as a catalyst for
students to seek a career path in public health, medicine, and health
services research, opening doors for enhanced opportunities within the
realm of research and public health. Our intent is to embolden young
"mini-investigators" to drive meaningful change and share their
accomplishments with our community, thereby magnifying the reach of
empowerment and inspiring others to initiate their own projects through
our program.
