Dear Professor Tom Lutz,

I am writing to you as a representative of the AI Institute for
Resilient Agriculture (AIIRA). AIIRA is proud to announce its first ever
writing contest focusing on humans, their technology, and their food. We
encourage undergraduates of any major or specialty to submit fiction or
nonfiction speculating on how food will be produced in the year 2050. What
kinds of technology will be involved in the food production and
transportation process? How will food look, taste, and feel? How will we
access and consume food? Submissions open September 1 and close December
31. Contestants have the opportunity to compete for a first prize of
$2,000; a second prize of $1,500; and a third prize of $1,000.

I would be very grateful if you could spread the word about
this contest throughout your department and university. Students may find
more information about requirements at our webpage
http://aiira.iastate.edu/writingcontest/ as well as in the attached flyer.

Sincerely,

Natalie Plahuta
