WHAT TO EXPECT
The main power will be turned off to the buildings. Electrical equipment, lights, and elevators will be impacted.
Occupants with sensitive research equipment should take the following precautions: If you have sensitive research equipment or systems you know can be impacted by power interruption and you have not connected them to uninterrupted power devices (UPS) and surge protectors, please plan to disconnect and turn off equipment for the duration of the shutdown to avoid any damage. Additional information on how to power down your equipment may be found from our partners at EH&S: https://ehs.ucr.edu/laboratory/utilities.
Buildings with a backup emergency generator will have power available: It is recommended that any equipment using emergency power be plugged into a red outlet, such as -80 freezers, spectrometers, and air compressors. All at-risk equipment should be plugged into surge protectors.
To confirm your equipment is connected to E-Power or Main Power, please reference the photos below.

  * E-Power outlets are labeled with the prefix “EL”.
  * Normal Low Voltage Power (non e-power) outlets are labeled with the prefix “NL”.
