[Corebotanyfaculty] Faculty meeting Monday March 5

Hi everyone,  we will meet on Monday to discuss academic planning.  There is a seminar scheduled at 2 pm that some of us want to attend (Tomokazu Kawashima), so we will start faculty meeting at 3:00.

The academic planning committee has sent me the following summary of their recommendations:

1) Propose that our next positions focus on building strengths in research areas relevant to climate resilience, with a focus on positions that bridge current strengths isn the apartment.
2) Suggested list of hires for 2024/25 is Plant Molecular Cellular Biology, Evolutionary Ecological Genomics, Biochemical Plant Physiology and Climate Change.

I’m attaching the documents we submitted last year, when we requested 2 positions (Plant Molecular Cellular Biology and Resilience to Climate Change) and did not rank them.  Our ongoing search is the Resilience to Climate Change position.  Dean Atkinson has made it clear that we must rank position requests this year.

I am also attaching our 5-yr  plan from last year.  Our hiring requests will be due in CNAS at the end of the quarter, so in 2-3 weeks.

CE Specialist positions are allocated by a murky process through ANR.  This year they will release 10 positions systemwide.  CNAS asked us to submit brief position requests, and given the fairly short timeline and likelihood of rejection, I thought I would just submit what we had already agreed and prioritized in our plan.  ANR asked us to submit a position description for the Urban Horticulture, and Peter has asked us to submit descriptions for all 3.  They are:

  *   Precision Agriculture / Environmental Horticulture
  *   Urban Horticulture
  *   Wildfire Science (I modified this to remove any indication of Weed Science, since we are just about to start the Weed Sci CE search)

I have asked the CE Specialists to work on position descriptions for these, and we would welcome contributions from anyone else.  Deadline for submission of CE positions is March 11.
