[Corebotanyfaculty] Change in schedule of merit files, and some updates from the last faculty meeting

Hi all,
Sorry to interrupt your Veteran’s Day holiday.     We had a faculty meeting scheduled on Monday Nov 13 to discuss merit and promotion files.  There has been a delay in getting the ad hoc report for one file, and I have had a request to delay the meeting for that file.  Since we are trying to consolidate our discussions to avoid the need to meet every week, we will delay the discussion of all 3 files to the following Monday, and shift the next set to a week later. Those files have been delayed in being finalized anyway, so would have had to be delayed.  Our updated meeting schedule is:

Monday Nov 13
No meeting

Monday Nov 20
• Dawn Nagel (Promotion to Associate Professor with tenure)
• Julia Bailey-Serres (Merit)
• Thomas Eulgem (Merit)

Monday Nov 27
• Jim Baird (Promotion to full CE Specialist)

At our last faculty meeting, Monday 11/6, we discussed the format of faculty meeting. After discussing the benefits of in-person vs hybrid zoom meetings, we voted on the following going forward:

By default, all meetings will be in person.  An automatic zoom option will not be provided.  Faculty can request to attend a meeting remotely, with appropriate justification.  Requests need to be well justified, such as you traveling and want to participate in the discussion.  Remote option won’t be available for those who simply prefer it, or don’t want to come to campus.

We also discussed the need to provide a description of duties and letter of expectation for GSR appointments beginning Winter quarter.  There are a lot of details that we don’t yet have information about, but I want to provide the template for the letter of expectation/ DoD that Graduate Division provided during their training session, out so you can start thinking about this.  This is only for the GSR employment, not the academic portion of the graduate student appointment (registration for 297/299 units and completion of work toward the degree).
