[Corebotanyfaculty] Two things needed from you

Hi everyone, just a reminder about our meeting next Monday with the Dean. Location to follow. There will be a zoom option, but please try to attend in person if possible.

1. Please submit comments on the college draft academic plan and any other comments you want to convey to the Dean. You will, of course, be encouraged to make comments at the meeting, but it is useful to have a template in advance to direct the conversation. https://forms.gle/7qf3V9LKtQqMSfnu6

2. In anticipation of a request to submit our teaching assignments for 23-24 to CNAS, please enter your teaching plans, as best you know them, by April 14 here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vi-J8zi-TUrmM8R7Cn6eOYvOjo6YbMAxQJ2ONZRRBqU/edit?usp=sharing

We discussed teaching loads in the January retreat. Remember that the expectation is that everyone teaches 2 courses per year, unless they have a teaching release, or are in the first 2-3 years of an Assistant Professor position. The form asks you to indicate if you have a teaching release, are planning sabbatical, etc. We will need to submit this information with our hiring request in May. Recall that our teaching load will impact whether we get faculty positions, and how much startup we need to contribute. Please provide as much information as possible.

We will also use this information to fill in BPSC200A-B, BPSC240, and BPSC250 assignments.

Thanks, patty

Hi all,
We won’t have a faculty meeting next Monday, as it is the first day of the quarter and the start of the program review.
We are scheduled to meet with Dean Uhrich on Monday April 10. I’m attaching a draft CNAS Academic Plan that the Dean will be asking us for feedback on. She sent this out to all faculty in January. I present it without comment.

To facilitate getting your feedback, I would like to collect comments in advance of the meeting. I realize some of you may be reluctant to speak up in the meeting, although I encourage you all to do so. As another mechanism to collect feedback, you can submit comments here: https://forms.gle/7qf3V9LKtQqMSfnu6 and I will summarize them. The form asks for names so that I can keep track of who is responding, but I can convey them anonymously in the meeting if needed. I think we will also be asked to provide a written dept. response after the meeting.

In other news, the deadline for submitting our academic plan/position requests has been extended to May 15, so we have a bit more time. You can find our academic plan from last year here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wjNzbWH6-6pzfAhXAAl7laL5tOg8iG89/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=108547712639255893478&rtpof=true&sd=true
As we discussed at our last faculty meeting, it would be great if everyone can look at this document and make comments. I’m also attaching our position requests from last year. We are searching for the first position on the list. We will need to decide if we want to make revisions to this.

I will work on pulling together some data on faculty citations, rankings, funding, etc. I have much of this already.

Thanks and enjoy the last of spring break. Patty
