Hi Katie and everyone,  I think Katie probably sent this through the list serve yesterday, but it didn’t get approved until this morning.

Meanwhile, I sent a revised version this morning that we are voting on, and we will not use signatures, but have the statement come from the department.

I’ve had a request for one additional revision, to remove the last phrase in the statement “regardless of an individual's involvement with or participation in the strike."

This statement incorporates that (revised sentence in red):

Faculty in the Botany and Plant Sciences Department at UCR stand in solidarity with the graduate students, postdocs, and academic researchers to increase their salaries and benefits to a level that meets today’s living and housing costs in California. These employees are foundational to our department’s research and teaching mission. We strongly object to the current socioeconomic inequalities they face, which undermine the public mission of the University of California. A fair contract for academic employees is a step towards addressing these inequities.

We support the right of all academic employees to participate in strike activities and will keep channels of communication open.

If you’ve already voted, you should be able to edit your vote if you want to change it.
