Dear Colleagues -

I am writing to inform you of an important update within the CNAS Graduate Student Affairs Center.

As some of you may be aware, I recently assumed a new role as the Director of Graduate Student Advising within the CNAS Graduate Students Affairs Center. With this transition, it has become necessary for me to make adjustments to our team's structure to ensure the continued success of our unit and the best support for our students.

I am pleased to announce that Kathy Van Horn will be taking on the role of Graduate Student Services Advisor for the Department of Entomology in addition to EEOB and JDEB, effective immediately. Kathy has been a valuable member of our team, bringing a wealth of admissions, recruitment, and advising experience, along with institutional knowledge to her role. I am confident that she will excel in her new position.

Kathy graduated from Sonoma State University in 2010 with an MA in English Literature. She was the Registrar for ITT Tech Corona, and then spent two years in the Enrollment Management Center here in CNAS. Since January 2019, she has been a part of the GSAC team, working closely with EEOB and JDEB, and is excited to expand her impact with Entomology.

I am also excited to announce a new addition to our Graduate Student Affairs Center (GSAC) team, Anthony Dominguez. Anthony will be joining us as a Student Services Advisor for the Environmental Sciences (ENSC), Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics (GGB), and Earth and Planetary Science (EPS) graduate programs.

Before coming to UCR, Anthony worked at East Los Angeles College for three years in various roles. Anthony’s past experience is in student services, where he assisted with student conduct meetings, student grievance hearings, event planning, and student scheduling. Recently, Anthony joined the GSAC team as a limited employee working with EPS and GGB. We are thrilled that he will be joining us permanently in a full-time role.

I am confident that his contributions will enhance the graduate student experience within our college and contribute to the continued success of our programs.

Lastly, we are in the process of working on hiring a new full-time Student Services Advisor to join our team. If/when this is approved, our new SSA will take over Neuroscience and Environmental Toxicology as their designated graduate programs. More information to follow.
