Dear CITL Partners,

We are writing to inform you about an upcoming update to UC Riverside’s
DMARC policy. We are transitioning from a Monitoring policy to a Quarantine
policy starting on 05/06/2024.
What is DMARC?

DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting &
Conformance. It is an email authentication protocol that helps protect our
domain from unauthorized email senders.
What does the change to a Quarantine policy mean for you?

Previously, emails that failed DMARC authentication might still have been
delivered. With the new Quarantine policy, any emails that don't pass DMARC
checks may be quarantined by the receiving mail server.
Why are we making this change?

Adopting a Quarantine policy strengthens our email security by ensuring
that only legitimate emails claiming to be from our domain reach other
recipients. This reduces the risk of phishing attacks and protects the
University’s reputation.
What do you need to do?

If you are using authorized email services when sending emails on behalf
of UCR, you do not need to take any action. Emails that are properly
authenticated through DKIM and SPF will continue to be accepted by
receiving mail servers.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this update, please don't
hesitate to reach out to Okey Uchendu at okey.uchendu at ucr.edu.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Fisher
