Subject: Summer Dance Course

EXPAND YOUR DANCING AND CREATIVITY WITH THIS SUMMER DANCE COURSE!

SUMMER SESSION A01 DNCE 075: Beginning Techniques: Vogue +

Listed Title: Beginning World Dance Forms--hip Hop

Course Day(s): MTWR, Meeting Times: 5:00 PM - 6:20 PM

Location: ONLINE

Instructor: Cuauhtémoc Peranda, MFA / Pachappa Father Don’Té Lauren

With VOGUE +: Introduction to Voguing Techniques and Practices, the first half of the course focused on some of the basic dance elements (THE 5 ELEMETNS OF VOGUE) and movements of the form, while the latter part of the course focused on both learning choreographed phrases and creating personalized phrases, based off previously learned elements. Much of the course will be focused on co-creation and the building of self-care, self-esteem, and self-confidence practices. By working through choreography assignments though questions such as “express frustration in a chair” or “trace your room and place yourself in those traces,” we both deepen and express our sense of place, and both rehearse and depart form the various vogue styles. This course is generally geared towards any level of dance student who wants to explore personal creativity and movement innovation.

Subject: 2021-22 Bonnie Reiss Carbon Neutrality Initiative (CNI) Student Fellows Program (flyers attached)

Dear Colleagues:

I am writing to provide you with details on the 2021-22 Bonnie Reiss Carbon Neutrality Initiative (CNI) Student Fellows Program. The Office of the President will provide funds to support Carbon Neutrality Fellows at each campus, health system, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and the UCOP Energy and Sustainability Program. The amount of funds and the number of Fellows for each location is outlined in the table below. Each location will receive $4,000 per Fellow to cover their salary/stipend. These awards may be given to undergraduate or graduate students as a fellowship, or traditional internship, focused on advancing the goals of the Carbon Neutrality Initiative.

The Bonnie Reiss Carbon Neutrality Initiative supports two types of Fellows:

· Climate Action Fellows work on projects that help reduce emissions and support the University’s 2025 carbon neutrality goal. As with previous years, each location will administer the program locally so students’ efforts can be aligned with local CNI projects.

· Student Engagement Fellows support efforts to engage students in the CNI and communicate about and support projects of the Global Climate Leadership Council (GCLC). To ensure that these representatives have the knowledge necessary to engage other students in the CNI, locations are strongly encouraged to select a returning student who has previously served as a CNI Fellow. Student Engagement Fellows will receive an additional $1,000 budget for campus programming. The Student Engagement Fellow appointment is intended as a dedicated role.

During the 2020-21 Fellowship Program, the Student Engagement Fellows are expected to support efforts to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in the CNI. Please see the attached document for additional information on the expectations and responsibilities for CNI Fellows.

Each Fellow must have a faculty or staff supervisor identified. This supervisor will help the Fellow develop a scope of work for the fellowship that includes goals, deliverables and timelines, and metrics to measure success. In addition, the supervisor will oversee the Fellow’s activities, act as a resource for the Fellow (especially in the beginning of the project) and serve as a liaison between the Fellow and the campus community. The supervisors are welcome, but not required, to attend the Fellow’s orientation.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the dates and locations of fellowship activities could shift. It is our hope that we will continue to host the following events as currently scheduled.

Systemwide activities for the program include:

· Virtual orientation in September 2021

· Leadership training for Engagement Fellows in Fall 2021

· Spring field trip in 2022

· Closing symposium and poster presentation to be held in conjunction with the CA Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC) in July 2022

· Additional activities including regular conference calls, attending meetings of Global Climate Leadership Council, and participating in other CNI-related activities in support of the initiative

Please note that, absent exceptional circumstances, all CNI Student Fellows and Student Engagement Fellows are expected to attend the systemwide events.

Locations should be prepared to notify awardees of their selection and to submit the names of your fellows here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdupyDxKIk-x9CCmCBcPon_cEp16iq5Sg-yU3SvliSWDETQKg/viewform?usp=sf_link> no later than July 1. Project descriptions should be finalized by August 2.

Funds will be transferred to your locations by September 1, 2021. Any unspent fellowship funds will need to be reported and returned to UCOP by May 13, 2022. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Administrative Analyst Alina Tejera at Alina.Tejera at ucop.edu<mailto:Alina.Tejera at ucop.edu>.

The President has set a high bar with the pledge for UC to become carbon neutral by 2025. Students, faculty, staff and leadership will need to work together to achieve this goal and the CNI fellowships are a critical step in that process. President Drake is hopeful that these awards will energize students’ interest in supporting the UC Carbon Neutrality Initiative and the efforts being led by your campus.

Sincerely,

Yvette Gullatt

Vice President for Graduate and Undergraduate Affairs and

Vice Provost for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
